This is the last of 5 daily articles we will be distributing over the course of the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which runs from Jan. 5th - Jan. 8th. The information below is very brief and will likely be elaborated upon in a future article, or set of articles.
Toshiba
Toshiba is set to ship its HD DVD laptop. Available in March with a HD-DVD option, they expect it to sell in the $3000 range. Other features include 1080p screen resolution, HDMI output, and built-in Harmon Kardon speakers. Sounds like a good deal to me.
LG
LG is working on an STB to be used in the government subsidy program. The target price point currently is $50, of which $40 would be subsidy with a $10 consumer co-pay. This box would receive ATSC and output NTSC, including a basic program guide and subchannel availability.
Audio Authority
Audio Authority is showing the first in its new line of HD components: the 1166. This is a 6x1 DVI w/HDCP switcher with component video, digital audio, and stereo audio. All video sources are up-converted and available on the DVI output and all audio sources are available on the digital audio outputs. The 1166 will be available in the first quarter with a retail of $2000.
